Christmas Tree Cheese Board
If you ask me, Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a couple of wow-worthy appetizers and grazing boards that get your guests talking! Today’s recipe is a cheese board, all dressed up so it’s extra festive and fun, but super simple to put together.
You might have already seen my Christmas tree bruschetta, and as much as I love it, there’s no denying that it’s a bit more of a labor of love, and it’s not the kind of thing you can put together in less than 10 minutes when you have unexpected guests.
Seriously though, this one really couldn’t be any easier. We’re just chopping up some cheese and arranging it on a board with some tomatoes and fresh herbs. (You can add extras if you like, such as cold meats and fruits and crackers, but it’s totally optional and I usually just go with what happens to be in my fridge at the time and what needs using up – I’ve probably made this a dozen times over the years, and I don’t think it’s ever been exactly the same)!
Kids and adults love it, and it’s got a wonderful kind of nostalgic charm about it. Let me show you how it’s done.

-
Colby Jack cheese (cubed) – Mild, creamy, and colorful with that orange-and-white marbling.
-
Gouda cheese (cubed) – Smooth and slightly nutty, a nice flavor contrast to the Colby Jack.
-
Cherry tomatoes – Bright pops of red that double as “ornaments” for your cheese tree.
-
Fresh rosemary sprigs – The finishing touch that makes the board look like a real Christmas tree!

How To Make Your Christmas Tree Cheese Board
- Assemble the tree: Start at the top of a large platter (bonus points if it’s tree-shaped!) with a layer of Gouda cheese cubes.

- Build the layers: Add a row of cherry tomatoes just under the Gouda, then follow with a row of Colby Jack cubes, keeping the triangle/tree shape as you go.

- Add greenery: Tuck in sprigs of fresh rosemary beneath the Colby Jack to give it that evergreen look.

- Keep going: Repeat the pattern — Gouda, cherry tomatoes, Colby Jack — working your way down the board.
- Finish it off: Place more rosemary sprigs along the bottom to complete the tree. It’s festive, colorful, and ready for snacking.

Serving Ideas
I love that this Christmas tree cheese board is super simple and you just need a handful of ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen over the holidays, but if you want, you can add a few extras to take things up a level:
-
Crackers and breadsticks – Arrange them along the sides of the tree so guests can grab and go.
-
Charcuterie – Add slices of salami, prosciutto, or pepperoni around the board if you’re a meat lover or you just want to use up odds and ends from your fridge.
-
Fruits and nuts – Grapes, apple slices, dried cranberries, or candied pecans make great add-ons.
-
Dips and spreads – A little bowl of honey, mustard, or fig jam on the side pairs beautifully with cheese.
-
Festive touches – Use a small star-shaped cracker or cookie cutter-cut cheese star at the very top of the tree for extra holiday flair!

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips
-
Make ahead: You can cube the cheese a day in advance and keep it in an airtight container in the fridge. Same with washing and drying the tomatoes and rosemary. When it’s party time, just assemble everything on the platter.
-
Short-term storage: If you need to build the tree earlier in the day, cover the board tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Pull it out about 20–30 minutes before serving so the cheese has time to lose its chill (nobody loves ice-cold cheese).
-
Leftovers: If you happen to have any, pack the cheese and tomatoes back into containers and refrigerate for snacking later. The rosemary won’t hold up quite as well, so toss it and grab fresh sprigs next time.
