FAQs

Why did you call your blog ‘Slimming Violet’?

I started the blog back in 2018, when I was trying to lose a little weight and I was mostly cooking healthy, slimming recipes in my own kitchen that I wanted to share with more people.

My name is Violet, so I chose ‘Slimming Violet’ as it seemed like a fun play on words – like the old-fashioned idiom, ‘Shrinking Violet’.

A lot has changed since then! I started a family and I’m now a wife and mother, and my personal food philosophy has evolved. Naturally, the content that I share here has also changed. Nowadays, I’m more focused on creating recipes that are family friendly and perfect for busy weeknights. I like to keep them healthy where possible, but I also believe that a little indulgence is only a good thing! The name ‘Slimming Violet’ had stuck though, so I decided to keep it.

I’ve got a question about a specific recipe. Can you help?

Sure. I try to reply to all comments and questions personally, and I’m always more than happy to help wherever I can. The best way to ask a question is to leave a comment on the specific post, and I aim to get back to you within 24 hours.

Can I substitute ingredients in your recipes?

I’ve tested the recipes exactly as they’re written, so I can’t say that substitutions of certain ingredients will produce the best results. That said, I know and appreciate that it’s not always possible to go out and buy a whole load of new ingredients and you might want to use things that you already have in your own kitchen. If that’s the case, leave a comment on the post and I can brainstorm ideas with you and share my thoughts on possible substitutions.

Can I share your recipes with my friends and family?

Yes, please do! The best way to share them is to send them the link to the post via email or social media.

On a related note, I love nothing more than seeing photos of the food you’ve created by following my recipes! Please do tag me @slimmingviolet on your Instagram Stories or grid posts.

How do you test your recipes?

The majority of my recipes are tested in my own home kitchen, when I’m cooking dinner for my family. There’s a few reasons for this. Firstly, it ensures that I create minimal waste, and the food that I’m cooking is enjoyed by my own loved ones. I also feel that this approach helps to make my recipes more foolproof and realistic for everyday cooks making meals at home. I’m usually testing recipes with a toddler at my feet and all the hustle and bustle of family life going on. If I can make the recipes work in this kind of scenario, I know you can too!

Are you hiring?

At the time of writing, I’m not hiring. If that changes, I’ll be sure to update this page with the details of any positions. That being said, I regularly work with freelancers and contractors on work like web design tweaks and editing. So if you think that you’d be a great fit, feel free to drop me an email with your details and I’ll be sure to keep you in mind for any upcoming projects that you might be great fit for.

Do you collaborate with brands?

Occasionally, yes! In the past, I’ve worked with brands including Hello Fresh, Schwartz, and Spicentice. That said, I’m very selective about the brands I work with, and I only consider partnerships with brands I personally know, use regularly, and love. I turn most offers down, as they don’t align with my values and personal cooking philosophies. If you represent a brand and want to discuss potentially working together, don’t hesitate to drop me an email.

Can I request a specific recipe?

Absolutely! I love receiving requests for recipes as it helps me to create more content that I know you’ll love. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to develop every recipe that’s requested, but I carefully consider each and every one, and I’ll always endeavour to build those ideas into my content creation plans. Just send me an email.

How do you decide which recipes to create and post?

All of the recipes I publish here are guided by what I’m creating in my own kitchen, for my own family! Some are my personal favorites that I’ve been cooking for years and years, and some are newer ideas that I’ve tried after seeing trends on TikTok, for example, and experimenting with putting my own spin on them. I also love to cook with seasonal ingredients. They taste better, and they’re usually much more budget friendly!

Can I submit a guest post?

No, I don’t accept guest posts. All the content you see on the blog is created and edited by me.

Got a question that isn’t covered here? Send me an email and I’ll get back to you ASAP!
