What To Serve With Egg Sandwiches: 9 Delicious Sides

If you’re trying to find some tasty ideas for what to serve with egg sandwiches, you’ve come to the right place!

Whether you’re putting together a lunchtime snack for casual visitors, preparing a lighter evening meal for the family, or want to make an everyday staple worthy of a dinner party, there are so many options that can make a simple sarnie into something a little more impressive.

Here, we’re going to take you through some tasty choices for side dishes, snacks, and accompaniments for egg salad sandwiches, fried egg sandwiches, and boiled egg sandwiches…

1. Potato chips

All you have to do for this one is open up a bag of potato chips and serve them in a bowl in the middle of the table!

They add a satisfying crunch alongside a creamy sandwich, making them a really good choice if your preference is egg mayonnaise.

Plain ready salted work so well here, though of course you can choose your favourite flavoured option if you prefer.

2. Crudités

A platter of freshly prepared veggies cut into batons is so visually appealing, and also super healthy and packed with lots of essential vitamins and minerals.

Some good choices here include cucumber, peppers, carrots, radishes, and cherry tomatoes.

Serve on a bed of lettuce if presentation is particularly important to you.

Crudités are also really easy to prepare if you’re going to be on the go, as you can pack them into a Tupperware box and take them along to work, school, or a picnic.

Equally, you can make them extra fancy by adding some homemade dips like flavoured hummus, tzatiki, and pesto!

If you don’t have much time available, pick up a selection pack at your local supermarket.

3. Crispy bacon rashers

If you’re a meat eater, you really can’t beat some crispy bacon rashers when it comes to what to serve with egg sandwiches!

Whether you’re going for egg mayo or egg salad, you can simply chop your bacon into bite sized morsels and add them to your butty.

Alternatively, serve with on a side plate and allow your guests to help themselves.

They’re salty, crispy, packed with protein, and can really take your snack to the next level.

4. Hot sauce

Hot sauce lovers know that there’s no meal that it can’t improve!

A couple of splashes of hot sauce – my personal favourite is Frank’s – will make your sandwich one to remember.

If you like, you can even make your own.

This homemade hot sauce recipe is perfect if you have an abundance of peppers, and it makes a wonderfully thoughtful gift for friends and family.

5. Fresh sliced tomatoes drizzled with balsamic

When tomatoes are in season, you really can’t beat them in the flavour stakes.

Serve them simply alongside your egg sandwiches by slicing and drizzling over a little good quality balsamic vinegar, then seasoning with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.

(If you enjoy sandwiches, you’ll love what to eat with French dip sandwiches too!)

6. Spam fritters

Spam fritters are a popular offering in chip shops in the north of England, and though they’re a bit of an acquired taste, many people absolutely love them!

This spam fritters recipe is my favourite, and it includes a delicious beer batter, mustard, and cheese.

These are a good choice when you want to offer a range of different side dishes and you suspect that your guests might be extra hungry.

7. Crunchy green salad

A simple salad, packed with a variety of different flavours and textures, can transform a snack into a lunch that will keep you full until well past dinner time.

It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut with salads and just add your usual combination of lettuce, cucumber, and tomato, but remember that there are so many different choices out there that are readily available at the supermarket or your local greengrocer.

Some good choices include radish, spring onion, carrot, red cabbage, and celery. A light lemony dressing will also work well.

8. Fruit salad

If you have a sweet tooth then a vibrant fresh fruit salad is a perfect choice for what to serve with egg sandwiches.

Grapes, citrus fruits, melon, and kiwi all work great in a fruit salad. Avoid anything that might start to brown easily such as apple and banana, particularly if you like to prepare your side dishes in advance.

If you like, add a generous dollop of Greek style natural yoghurt and a few sprigs of fresh mint.

9. Cocktail sausages

Sausage and egg are a match made in heaven!

You often see sausages served for breakfast alongside poached, scrambled, or fried eggs, and there’s no reason why you can’t prepare a little twist on this traditional classic by serving your egg sandwiches with cocktail sausages.

Choose a high quality pork sausage, and add some honey and mustard dressing.

Alternatively, you can cut your sausages into bite sized pieces and add them straight into your sandwich.
