Christmas Tree Bruschetta

I’ve got a brand new Christmas recipe for you today, and oh my goodness, this one is SUCH a showstopper! It’s bright, it’s fresh, it’s full of flavor, and it also happens to be just so gorgeous that everyone is going to be talking about for years into the future. I kid you not – I first made this Christmas tree bruschetta about 4 years ago, and I’ve had requests for it every festive season since!

Toasted baguette slices are layered with a garlicky tomato topping, fresh basil, and mini mozzarella “ornaments”, then arranged into a festive Christmas tree shape. A drizzle of balsamic glaze gives it that final sparkle.

It’s the kind of holiday appetizer that looks like you spent hours on it, but it comes together in no time.

Ingredients

The full printable recipe card is waiting for you at the bottom of this post. But don’t skip these tips and variations, because they’ll make sure your Christmas tree bruschetta turns out extra gorgeous (and extra delicious).

  • Baguette – Go for a fresh, crusty baguette and slice it on the diagonal for those pretty, wide toasts that hold plenty of topping.

  • Roma tomatoes – They’re firm and not too watery, which keeps your bruschetta from getting soggy. Cherry tomatoes work in a pinch.

  • Garlic – Freshly minced garlic is a must here—it adds that sharp, savory kick that makes bruschetta so good.

  • Olive oil – Use a nice extra-virgin olive oil for the best flavor, both in the topping and for brushing the toasts.

  • Balsamic vinegar – This brings tang and depth to the tomato mixture. If you have balsamic glaze too, you’ll use that later for a final drizzle.

  • Salt + pepper – A simple seasoning, but don’t skip them—they really make the tomato mixture sing.

  • Fresh mozzarella – Cut into tiny rounds to look like ornaments. You can also tear the cheese into little pieces if you don’t want to fuss with a cutter.

  • Fresh basil – Adds freshness and doubles as your “garland” for decorating the tree.

  • Flaky sea salt & balsamic glaze – Totally optional, but they give that restaurant-style finishing touch.

How To Make Your Christmas Tree Bruschetta

  • Make the “ornaments” – Lay out your mozzarella slices and use a small round cookie cutter (or the end of a piping tip) to punch out about 15–20 little circles. Instant cheesy ornaments!

  • Assemble the tree – Arrange your toasted baguette slices in the shape of a Christmas tree on a platter. Tuck fresh basil leaves around the edges for a leafy “garland,” saving a few to slice up for garnish.

Storage & Prep Tips

The tomato mixture can be prepped up to 6 hours in advance and kept in the fridge, which makes party day a whole lot easier. Just be sure to give it a quick stir before using.

For the best texture, don’t assemble the bruschetta until right before serving—otherwise the bread can get soggy.

If you want to save even more time, you can toast the baguette slices a few hours ahead and keep them in an airtight container until you’re ready to build your Christmas tree.

Recipe Notes

  • Roma tomatoes are key – They’re firm and less watery than other varieties, so your bruschetta won’t end up soggy.

  • Let it sit – Give the tomato mixture at least 30 minutes to marinate; it really helps the flavors come together.

  • Mozzarella ornaments – Fresh mozzarella slices work great for cutting little “ornaments,” but you can also use mozzarella balls (ciliegine) if you’d rather keep it simple.

  • Bonus use – Got extra tomato topping? It’s amazing spooned over grilled or baked chicken the next day.

Variations

  • Amp up the flavor – Stir chopped sun-dried tomatoes or roasted red peppers into the mix for a deeper, richer bite.

  • Pesto drizzle – A little swirl of basil pesto on top adds a festive green pop and herby flavor.

  • Switch up the cheese – Swap the mozzarella for crumbled feta or creamy goat cheese if you want something tangier.

  • Holiday shapes – Use different cookie cutters (like stars, snowflakes, or trees) to punch out the mozzarella for even more holiday flair.
