A Peloton pause button has been in high demand by many users for quite some time now, and at the annual Homecoming event in April 2021 it was finally announced that the feature was due to be rolled out.
Though it’s introduction has been something of a controversial subject in Peloton’s Facebook communities, there’s no denying that it can be extremely useful for a whole host of different reasons.
Here, we’ll take a look at how to pause a Peloton class on the app, bike, and tread, plus everything you need to know about the feature!
The Peloton pause button can be useful for a variety of reasons.
The doorbell might ring during your workout, for example, and the pause button means that you can jump off and jump back on, without missing part of the class.
It can also be useful if you have kids at home who might need your attention, if you receive an important call that you just can’t ignore, or for those moments when life just get in the way.
In the past I can remember feeling frustrated if I had to get off the bike mid workout and therefore dash my chances of hitting a personal record, so I believe the Peloton pause button is a great thing to have!
As I’ve mentioned, not everyone agrees that the feature is a good idea.
It could be argued that it detracts from the feeling of being part of a live group experience, and it could even be used to ‘cheat’ the leaderboard and skew your output metrics more favourably, by taking a breather before you get back into the session.
I think it’s important to remember that at the end of the day, you’re only really riding against yourself, and you need to find an approach that works best for you.
You don’t have to use the pause button if you don’t want to, but it’s a useful feature to have for lots of people!
It’s really easy to pause a Peloton class! Simply press the middle of the screen during your chosen session, and the button will appear.
If it’s your first time using the feature, you’ll see a pop up like in the image below that explains that you can use the button, and that it will remove you from the leaderboard.
Your output and associated data will still be saved in your class history as usual, but you’ll no longer be able to compete on the leaderboard for that particular class.
You can pause for up to 60 minutes – plenty of time to answer a call or see who’s ringing your doorbell!
The pause feature still works as it always has done on the Peloton digital app.
Just press the screen during your workout, and the session will pause.
Tap again when you’re ready to resume the class.
The Peloton pause button is being rolled out now, and many users already have access to it.
I personally got the functionality on my bike in early November 2021.
Some users are reporting that they still don’t have access to the feature.
If that’s the case, it’s just a case of being patient! All users should be able to pause a Peloton class very soon.
No, you can’t pause a live Peloton class. If you think you might want to take advantage of the pause button, you’ll have to choose an on-demand class.
