What Bread Goes With Hummus?

Hummus is creamy, garlicky, and a staple for plenty of families who love it for snacking, adding to wraps and sandwiches, or serving alongside their favourite main courses like grilled kebabs and salads.

In this guide, I’m going to share the best ideas for what bread goes with hummus…

(If you’re a big hummus lover, you might also want to check out how to fix runny hummus, and how to fix hummus that’s too garlicky!)

1. Pitta Bread

Pitta bread is the most popular bread for pairing with hummus, and it’s perfect for scooping up your dip.

Toast it, cut into triangles, and you’re ready to go!

Alternatively, you can make a sandwich with your hummus and pitta and add shredded chicken, grated carrot, chopped cucumber, and fresh coriander for a satisfying lunch.

2. Sourdough

Sourdough is one of my favourite bread choices of all time, due to it being less likely to contain a ton of ultra processed ingredients, higher in essential nutrients, and of course it’s also totally delicious.

For a satisfying breakfast or lunch, lightly toast a slice of sourdough, spread with a generous helping of hummus, and add finely sliced cucumber and freshly chopped parsley.

It’s super simple, but it’s something that you’ll definitely want to try again!

3. Crostini

If you’re looking to impress some dinner guests, or you’re in the mood for whipping up some fancy canapés, crostini and hummus makes an excellent pairing.

Crostini is Italian for ‘toasts’, and to make them, you simply need to slice up some crusty bread, brush with a little olive oil, and grill until crispy.

Add your topping, and you’re good to go!

4. Piadina (Italian Flatbreads)

Piadina is a thin Italian flatbread, perfect for sophisticated lunches, bistro style sandwiches, and of course, pairing with hummus.

Cut it up for dipping, or use it as a sandwich base alongside chopped salad and fresh herbs.

5. Naan bread

Naan bread might not be the most traditional or authentic option when it comes to what bread goes with hummus, but it’s a delicious combination that you really need to try!

For a quick and easy but impressive lunch, cook up a batch of naan breads and add to the middle of the table alongside your hummus, sliced tomatoes, radishes, red onion, and your favourite grated cheese.

6. Two-Ingredient Flatbreads

If you’re anything like me, you’ll always have a tub of natural yoghurt in your fridge!

But did you know that you can use it to make your own super simple flatbreads?

Just mix equal quantities of self-raising flour and yoghurt, combine into a dough, roll into flatbreads, and cook in a hot pan on the stove for a minute or two on each side, or until puffy and golden.

They’re perfect for serving with hummus and colourful crudités.

As you can see, there’s no shortage of tasty choices when it comes to choosing bread to serve with hummus.

Which of these pairings will you be trying?
