Planning a pasta night for your loved ones? Or just thinking about creating your favourite Italian inspired meal for a midweek indulgence? Either way, you may be considering what to serve with ravioli. 

These little stuffed envelopes of pasta can be filled with a wide variety of different meats, cheeses, and veggies, and are often served covered in a rich and satisfying sauce. 

They’re super versatile, and with a few little tweaks, you can create something that incorporates all your favourite ingredients.

1. Cheesy tomato garlic breads 

Pasta and garlic bread are a match made in heaven! I like to get creative by making my own cheesy tomato garlic breads. They’re so satisfying when they’re served piping hot from the oven, and they’re so much better than their pre prepared counterparts that you’ll find in the supermarket. 

I also like to add a little sprinkle of dried red chilli flakes for a spicy kick! 

This option works particularly well if you have a pesto or cheese based sauce for your ravioli.

2. Balsamic roasted vegetables 

Roasted vegetables can be brought to life by adding the tangy flavour of a good quality aged balsamic vinegar. The vinegar will also help to caramelise potatoes and onions, and give them a beautiful golden colour. 

I use this balsamic roasted vegetables recipe as a guideline, but don’t be scared to go off piste and add a selection of any veggies that you might have in the fridge. 

Beetroot and carrots are always a tasty addition, and a chopped lemon will add a lovely element of zest.

3. Panzanella bread salad 

Panzanella salad includes chunks of stale ciabatta bread, a dressing made with olive oil and red wine vinegar, and some satisfyingly salty anchovies. 

It’s the kind of salad that has tons to offer in terms of flavour and crunch, making it a worthy addition to your dinner table when you want to impress your guests. It’s also a fantastic way to use up any leftover bread that might have otherwise gone to waste.

4. Asparagus wrapped in parma ham

Asparagus wrapped in parma ham is a beautifully simple but delicious side dish for ravioli. 

Of course, this dish is best when asparagus is in season, and here in the UK, that’s typically a window of around 8 weeks between April and June. 


5. Rosemary focaccia bread 

If you’re serving your ravioli with a tomato based sauce, rosemary focaccia bread is a wonderful side for dipping and mopping up those flavoursome juices. 

It’s easy to make, and it’s also beautifully fluffy and satisfyingly chewy. 

Making bread for the first time can be a little daunting, especially if you’ve never baked using yeast before. As long as you carefully follow the steps though, you’ll be absolutely fine!

6. Parmesan roasted broccoli 

If you’re always eager to encourage your family to eat more veggies, you might be thinking about choosing a green side dish for what to serve with ravioli. 

You really can’t beat parmesan roasted broccoli. It offers plenty in the way of goodness and nutrition, whilst also being completely delicious and a little indulgent. 

Make sure you add a drizzle of lemon juice and some balsamic vinegar to ensure the flavours really sing!

7. Chicken drumsticks 

Passionate meat eaters will love a side order of chicken drumsticks with their ravioli! 

The beauty of this choice is that you can tailor it depending on the filling and sauce you’re planning to use, so you can create a really unique dish where all the flavours will work together. 

You can add your favourite seasonings and spices, or you can keep things simple by roasting with some olive oil, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper.

8. Roasted stuffed butternut squash

Roasted butternut squash makes an excellent centrepiece for any meal, particularly if you’re vegetarian or just trying to cut down a little on your meat intake. 

You can tailor your filling depending on your own personal tastes, but some of my personal favourites include feta cheese, pine nuts, Italian sausage, winter greens, and sun-dried tomatoes.

9. Cauliflower steaks 

Cauliflower steaks have became hugely popular in recent years, and they’re so versatile! 

I like to serve mine with a combination of olive oil, garlic, and fresh chilli. The possible combinations are endless though, and you can tailor yours to complement the ingredients used in your ravioli.

10. Caprese skewers 

Caprese skewers take just seconds to prepare, and they have some many different uses. Serve them as a pre-dinner nibble with drinks, as a starter, or as a side dish alongside your main course. 

Just take cherry tomatoes, basil leaves, and baby balls of mozzarella, and thread them on to wooden skewers. Drizzle with a little balsamic vinegar, if you like.

11. Italian white beans

Italian white beans is one of those side dishes that you’ll probably never think about making, but it’s really tasty and can be super easy to make. 

This recipe for Italian white beans with garlic, sage, and tomatoes is one of my go-to favourites, and the addition of a good dry white wine makes it feel super special. Be sure to pour yourself a glass whilst you’re cooking, to celebrate the fantastic meal you’re putting together!

12. Italian sautéed mushrooms 

Mushrooms really are a super food! They’re low in calories, as well as being a great source of fibre and protein, and a wide range of valuable antioxidants. 

They’re a great option for what to eat with ravioli when they’re gently sautéed with white wine and garlic. Add a swirl of single cream if you’re feeling indulgent! 


Many people would consider ravioli to be a satisfying dish in its own right, and it’s true that this carb based meal often doesn’t require any side to be enjoyed by the whole family! 

Picking just one or two accompaniments though can really bring all the flavours together, and ensure that everyone at the table enjoys their Italian inspired meal.
