Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

I look forward to asparagus season every year, and this is one of my favorite ways to enjoy it! Seasoned asparagus gets wrapped in bacon and baked until the bacon is crisp and the spears are tender. Because everything is better wrapped in bacon, and asparagus is no exception! It’s a simple side or appetizer that works just as well for weeknight dinners as it does for parties and holidays, and it always disappears fast.

Want the printable recipe card? It’s at the bottom of this post, and it covers ingredients, measurements, and instructions.

  • Asparagus spears, ends trimmed — Thicker spears work best since they hold up well to the bacon and oven heat.

  • Olive oil — Helps the seasonings stick and keeps the asparagus from drying out.

  • Salt — Brings out the natural flavor of the asparagus and balances the bacon.

  • Black pepper — Adds a little warmth without overpowering anything.

  • Garlic powder — Gives you that savory flavor without burning in the oven.

  • Cayenne pepper — Optional, but great for a subtle kick of heat.

  • Bacon slices — The star of the show; thin-cut bacon crisps up best around the asparagus.

Recipe Notes

  • Regular sliced bacon works best here. Thick-cut bacon takes longer to cook and won’t get as crispy, which can lead to overcooked or burnt asparagus.

  • Asparagus varies a lot in size, so adjust the bundles as needed. Thinner spears can be grouped together, while thicker spears can be wrapped individually if you prefer.

  • For extra-crispy bacon, switch the oven to broil and cook the bundles for 2–3 minutes at the end, keeping a close eye on them.

  • If you like a sweet-and-savory combo, sprinkle a little brown sugar over the bacon before baking for a light glaze.

  • Want to make them cheesy? Sprinkle shredded Parmesan over the bundles right at the end and let it melt.
