Boozy Fireball Apple Cider

PSA: You can (and should) start making this fireball apple cider in October, and keep it in rotation all the way through winter! I’ve served this one up while handing out candy on Halloween (to the grown-ups, of course, it’s got quite the kick!), clinking glasses at Friendsgiving, and for setting the mood at a Christmas gathering. The combination of crisp apple and cinnamon-spiced fireball whiskey makes it a favorite as soon as fall starts to come round.

Serve it warm and steamy for maximum comfort, or over ice if you’re feeling chill and want something a bit more refreshing. It’s super flexible — make one for yourself after a long day, or scale it up for a crowd.

Looking for the printable recipe card? Head to the bottom of this post – you’ll find it right there. I do recommend reading through the next few sections though – I’m explaining more about the ingredients I selected for this one and why, sharing pictures from the process, and giving some extra tips for scaling up the recipe to make a big batch for parties!

  • Apple cider (hot or chilled): Use a good-quality apple cider for the best flavor—look for one that’s unfiltered and made with real apples. You can warm it gently on the stovetop or in the microwave if serving hot.
  • Fireball whiskey: This cinnamon-flavored whiskey gives the drink its signature kick and cozy warmth. Adjust the amount to your taste for a stronger or milder sip.
  • Red apple slices (optional garnish): Crisp and sweet, these make the perfect seasonal garnish—and they look pretty too! Honeycrisp or Fuji apples work especially well.
  • Cinnamon sticks (optional garnish): Adds a festive touch and a subtle boost of cinnamon aroma—great for both warm and chilled versions.
  • Whole star anise (optional garnish): These little stars are totally optional but add a beautiful visual and a light licorice note that pairs well with the cider.
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional garnish): A little unexpected but super charming—rosemary adds a fragrant herbal twist and looks great in a fall drink.

Recipe Notes

  • You can make this ahead of time and store it in a sealed jar or bottle in the fridge for up to a week. Want to freeze it? Go for it—just use a freezer-safe container and it’ll keep for up to 3 months.

  • I usually use a 12-ounce glass, but if you’re adding ice and garnishes, you might want to size up so nothing spills over.

  • Want to mellow out the kick a bit? A splash of ginger ale does the trick and adds a little sparkle too.

Making A Big Batch for A Party

This recipe makes one cozy cocktail, but it’s super easy to scale up for a crowd. Just multiply the ingredients by however many servings you need and mix everything together in a pitcher or punch bowl. If you’re serving it warm, keep it in a slow cooker on the “keep warm” setting and let guests ladle it themselves. Don’t forget to set out the garnishes for that festive finishing touch!

Serving Ideas

  • Fall gatherings & bonfire nights: This cozy cocktail is perfect for sipping under a blanket or around a fire pit with friends. Serve it in mason jars with a cinnamon stick for that rustic touch.

  • Thanksgiving crowd-pleaser: A warm mug of Fireball Apple Cider makes the ideal welcome drink. It pairs beautifully with grazing boards, baked brie, or sausage-stuffed mushrooms.

  • Christmas party favorite: Serve it alongside holiday snacks like spiced nuts, pigs in blankets, or cranberry meatballs. Add a rosemary sprig for a pine-scented festive garnish.

  • Dessert pairing: Try it with apple pie bars, snickerdoodles, or cinnamon sugar donuts. The cinnamon and apple flavors carry through beautifully.

  • Cocktail hour match: Pair with a simple charcuterie board — think sharp cheddar, gouda, spiced pecans, and apple slices to echo the drink.
