Notes from our Test Kitchen

This recipe actually came from wanting something simple but a little more thoughtful to bring to a dinner party. I didn’t want to show up empty-handed, but I also didn’t want to do the usual wine-or-chocolates hostess gift.

It’s such a fun way to use your crockpot for something other than dinner. You just add everything in, let it cook down slowly, and end up with something that feels a bit special without a lot of effort.

And if you’ve ever been intimidated by making jam, this is a really easy place to start! Traditional jam recipes can involve a lot of precise steps and timing, but here the slow cooker does most of the work. The berries naturally break down as they cook, and the sugar helps thicken everything into that classic jammy texture.

The result is a rich, flavorful spread that feels homemade in the best way, without needing to stand over the stove or worry about getting it exactly right.

  • Mixed berry blend: Any frozen mix works great. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and even strawberries. It’s a great shortcut and gives the jam a nice balance of flavors.
  • Cranberries: Add a slightly tart flavor that balances out the sweetness and helps give the jam that rich, deep color.
  • Brown sugar: Sweetens the jam and adds a subtle molasses flavor that pairs really well with the berries and spices.
  • Allspice: Brings a warm, slightly spiced flavor that makes this feel a little more special than your average jam.
  • Cinnamon: Adds warmth and depth without overpowering the fruit.
  • Ginger: Just a touch gives a little extra warmth and a subtle kick that rounds everything out.

How To Make Crockpot Mixed Berry Jam

  • Add all of the berries to the slow cooker.
  • Sprinkle the sugar, allspice, ginger, and cinnamon over the top.
  • Cover and cook on high for 4 hours, giving it a stir about halfway through.
  • Once it’s done cooking, use an immersion blender to blend the jam until smooth, or leave it a little chunky if you prefer.
  • Carefully pour the jam into mason jars and place the lids on top.
  • Let the jars sit at room temperature for about 2 hours, or until cooled. Then tighten the lids and transfer to the fridge.

Recipe Notes

  • You can use any mixed berry blend you like. I got mine from Costco this time, but sometimes I use this recipe as an excuse to use up all the open packets that I’ve got in my freezer! Basically any combination works well, so don’t overthink it.
  • This is a refrigerator-style jam, so store it in the fridge. It will keep for a couple of months unopened, and about 2 weeks once opened.
  • You can also freeze it for longer storage. Just transfer to an airtight, freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • If you don’t have brown sugar, white granulated sugar works just fine as a substitute.
  • An immersion blender makes this easy to blend right in the slow cooker, but you can also use a regular blender if needed.
  • Blend it to your preferred texture. Smooth or a little chunky both work great depending on how you like your jam. You do you!

Serving Ideas

This jam is perfect for breakfast. Just spread it over toast, English muffins, or warm biscuits for an easy, comforting start to the day.

It’s also great stirred into yogurt or oatmeal, or spooned over pancakes and waffles for a little extra flavor.

You can use it as a topping for ice cream or cheesecake, or even spread it onto sandwiches for a sweet twist.

It’s one of those simple things you can keep in the fridge and reach for anytime you want to make something feel a little more special.

How to Gift Your Jam

This makes such a simple, thoughtful homemade gift. Perfect when you want to bring something a little extra without a lot of effort!

  • Use small mason jars: They’re perfect for gifting and easy to portion out.
  • Add a label or tag: Write the name and date, or a quick note like “homemade with love”. So cute!
  • Tie it up nicely: A piece of twine or ribbon around the lid goes a long way to making it look a little more special.
  • Pair it with something: Add a loaf of bread, biscuits, or even a small jar of butter to make it feel like a complete gift.
  • Keep it chilled: Since this is a refrigerator-style jam, store it in the fridge and let the recipient know to do the same.
