*This is a collaborative post with Schwartz. I was provided with a complimentary product and reimbursed for my time. All views and opinions, as always, are my own.
Recently, the nice folks over at Schwartz challenged me to create a recipe using their paprika spice.
Never one to turn down a challenge – particularly when it results in me eating something delicious at the end of it – I got down to work in the kitchen and set about making something full of flavour and compatible with a healthy eating plan.
That’s the story of how these garlic & paprika chicken drumsticks came to life, and it’s safe to say that they’re now taking a regular place on our meal plans.
Here’s what you need to know…
For the full ingredients list and detailed instructions, see the recipe card at the end of this post. Make sure you check out this important information first though…
Schwartz spices have been a staple in my kitchen cupboards ever since I first learned to cook, and their paprika is a delight.
Its deep red shade makes for seriously aesthetically pleasing food, and the rich, slightly sweet, a-little-bit earthy flavour ensures that you’ll be creating a punchy and memorable dish.
These garlic and paprika drumsticks are a great place to start with this spice, but it lends itself to so many different things.
Consider using it in traditionally Spanish dishes such as paella, or even sprinkle a little over eggs for a twist on your usual breakfast.
You can pick up Schwartz paprika at your local Tesco, or at most good supermarkets.
I always think that chicken on the bone is hugely underrated, and it doesn’t often get the praise and popularity that it really deserves.
It’s more tender, more flavoursome, and it’s also usually significantly cheaper than buying ready prepared chicken breasts.
That said though, the marinade that we create in this recipe could be used with any cut of chicken. If you’d prefer, substitute the drumsticks with legs, thighs, or breast.
Per serving of 2 drumsticks, there are 456 calories.
If you’re following the Slimming World plan, then that’s 10 Syns.
These are a little higher in calories and Syns than many of the recipes that you’ll find here on the blog, but it’s still very possible to work them into your healthy eating plan.
They’re a great option for a weekend treat, or if you’re entertaining friends and family.
Alternatively, you could remove the skin from the chicken before cooking, and cut down the Syn value to 6 per serving.
These garlic & paprika chicken drumsticks team up well with so many different side dishes.
Whether you’re looking for a light lunch or a satisfying main meal, just choose your favourite accompaniments to really make the dish your own.
I think they’re perfect with mashed potatoes and salad, though you might want to consider rice, roast potatoes, green veggies, or of course, Slimming World friendly chips.
Because really, is there any better combination than chicken and chips?
Chicken is a staple in our household, and we typically cook with it at least a couple of times per week.
Here are a few of my favourite recipes that you might want to try…
Do you enjoy chicken satay from the takeaway? If so, you’ll absolutely love these low Syn chicken satay skewers. Serve with egg fried rice and crispy seaweed kale for a real Chinese style feast.
This chicken fajita pasta recipe is ideal if you fancy a bit of a twist on everyone’s favourite Mexican dish.
Last but not least, this Fanta chicken recipe is one of the all-time most popular dishes here on the blog. It might sound a little bit strange, but it’s deliciously sticky, slightly sweet, and packs a real chilli kick.
