Low Syn Chicken Satay | Slimming World
If you’ve been searching for a Slimming World chicken satay recipe, then you’ll know that finding something that’s relatively quick and easy, and doesn’t require an ingredients list as long as your arm, is a big challenge.
Though I love nothing more than a good old faff about in the kitchen, a traditional chicken satay recipe typically involves loading up at the supermarket on items like coconut milk and peanut butter.
I know from experience that when I buy things like these, they almost always end up being used just once or twice before they’ve past their use-by date and get chucked in the bin.
And needless to say, neither coconut milk or peanut butter are particularly slimming friendly.
So after a little experimentation, I came up with this Slimming World chicken satay recipe that we have right here.
It involves a little bit of a ‘cheat’ – which I’ll come to in a second – but it’s every bit as good as what you’d get from the takeaway, and I’d dare say that it could become one of your Friday night favourites.
Let’s get down to it…

How many Syns are in this recipe?
All the ingredients in this Slimming World chicken satay are Syn free, with the exception of the satay sauce.
See, first of all we marinade the chicken with yoghurt and a mix of spices. This is all about infusing the meat with flavour, and giving it a vibrant, appealing colour.
Once the skewers have been baked in the oven, we’re going to use a packet of satay stir fry sauce. Most supermarkets have an own-brand option, though you can pick up Amoy’s everywhere too.

I use Amoy, and I generously budget 2 Syns for the required serving size.
The Syns, of course, will vary slightly from brand to brand, so always check in advance if you’re strictly following the Slimming World plan.
It’s worth noting too that the consistency can vary, so if your chosen sauce is particularly thick, you might want to add a little bit of hot water or fat free yoghurt to loosen it up.
How to serve your Slimming World chicken satay
For an authentic takeaway experience, serve with homemade egg fried rice, and my oven baked crispy ‘seaweed’ (it’s actually kale!).
Add a few chunks of fresh lime too, for squeezing.
Recommended products when making this recipe
The only thing that you’ll need for this Slimming World chicken satay recipe that you might not already have is a pack of skewers.
Metal skewers are a great choice, as they’re reusable and they won’t burn in the oven.
Searching for more Chinese fakeaway recipes?
Having a couple of decent Chinese fakeaway recipes in your repertoire is always a good idea.
You’re going to save yourself a ridiculous amount of calories and Syns, and an added side benefit is that you can save a seriously impressive chunk of cash compared to if you headed to your local Chinese restaurant.
Give these a go…
This Syn free Chinese chicken recipe is probably one of the quickest and easiest meal that I make on a regular basis.
It requires only ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen, and it’s a bowlful of proper comfort and flavour.
A recipe that’s proved to be one of the most popular of all time on this blog is Fanta chicken.
It might sound a bit bizarre, but it’s Syn free, full of speed food, and it’s just like sweet and sour!
Low Syn Chicken Satay
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts skinless, cut into bitesized chunks
- 75 grams fat free natural yogurt
- 1/2 red chilli finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic finely chopped
- 1/8 inch ginger finely chopped
- 1 tsp tumeric
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 squeeze fresh lime
- 4 tbsp satay sauce
- 1 small handful fresh coriander optional, to serve
- Low calorie cooking spray
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the yoghurt, garlic, chilli, ginger, lime juice, turmeric, and cayenne pepper to create your marinade. Add the chicken and combine well. Set aside for a couple of hours in the fridge.

- Heat your oven to 180 degrees, and spritz a baking tray with low calorie cooking spray.
- Thread the pieces of chicken on to kebab skewers and place on the baking tray. (I like to spread the chicken across two skewers per person).
- Bake in the oven for 25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and piping hot.

- Heat the satay sauce in the microwave for one minute, or until piping hot, and stir well.
- Pour the satay sauce over the skewers, and spinkle over coriander, if using.
- Serve and enjoy!
