Ingredients

  • Strawberry jello: The star of the show! This gives your shots that bold strawberry flavor and that iconic jiggly texture. Feel free to swap in other flavors if you want to mix things up.
  • Boiling water: Essential for dissolving the jello powder completely—don’t skip this step or your shots might end up grainy.
  • Red berry vodka: This adds the kick! Red berry vodka blends perfectly with the strawberry jello, but plain or even citrus vodka works too if that’s what you have on hand.
  • Whipped topping (optional garnish): A fun little flourish for presentation—and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a swirl of whipped cream on top?
  • Fresh strawberries (optional garnish): Totally optional, but they make these look next-level cute. Just slice them in half and perch them on top before serving.

You’ll also need shot cups with lids.

How To Make Strawberry Jello Shots

If you prefer a printable recipe card to use in your own kitchen, you’ll find one towards the bottom of this post! Here, I’ll share the steps alongside some photos to give a visual guide to the process.

  • Start by lining up your plastic shot cups on a flat, moveable surface like a baking sheet or large plate—this makes it way easier to transfer them to the fridge later.

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the strawberry jello powder with the boiling water. Stir well until the jello is completely dissolved—no gritty bits!

  • Pour in the vodka and give it another stir to combine.

  • Carefully fill each shot cup with the jello mixture, leaving a little space at the top so they don’t spill.

  • Pop the tray into the fridge and let the shots chill for at least 2 hours, or until they’re fully set.

  • Just before serving, top with a swirl of whipped cream and half a strawberry if you’re feeling fancy.

Recipe Notes

  • Store the jello shots covered in the fridge for up to 4 days—popping the lids on the cups works perfectly.

  • Skip the garnish if you’re not serving them right away. Add the whipped topping and strawberry just before serving to keep everything looking (and tasting) fresh.

  • I don’t recommend freezing. The texture won’t survive the cold.

  • For that extra polished look, I used a frosting tip and piping bag to add the whipped topping. Totally optional—but it does make them look party-ready.
