Cheese pasties and dieting aren’t the most likely of bedfellows. Lashings of creamy cheese teamed up with puff pastry might be bloody delicious, but it’s also bloody calorific.

If you’re prone to a trip down to your local Gregg’s though, you’ll be pleased to know that you absolutely don’t have to abstain completely.

Your favourite baked treats can still be on the menu – it’s just a case of getting a bit creative in the kitchen and substituting a few ingredients to make them more waistline-friendly.

The additional good news here is that you don’t have to faff about yourself. I’ve done the faffing on your behalf, and came up with these Slimming World cheese and onion pasties that I think you’ll love.

Whether you want to pop them in a lunchbox and take them to work, or serve them up with some sides for dinner, these could become a staple on your weekly meal plans.

For the full ingredients list and detailed instructions, see the recipe card at the end of this post. Make sure you check out this important information first though…

So these are really Syn free?

Yep, that’s right! As long as you’re using the cheese and the wrap from your Healthy Extra A and Healthy Extra B allowances, it’s totally Syn free.

If you’re more of a calorie counter, then there’s 295 calories per pasty. When you consider their bakery counterparts, that’s a huge saving.

How to serve your Slimming World cheese and onion pasties

These pasties are surprisingly filling, and serving them with a leafy green salad makes for a satisfying meal.

A dollop of tomato chutney goes so well with the cheesy flavour too – just make sure that you count the calories or the Syns.

If you’re feeling particularly ravenous though, you could always make yourself a portion of Slimming World chips.

Because you really can’t beat a pasty and chips, can you?

No fancy gear is needed to make this recipe. If you’ve already got reasonably well-stocked kitchen cupboards, you’re likely to have all the equipment you need.

These items below though are the ones that I personally use and recommend – not just for this recipe right here, but for most of the meals that you’ll see here on the blog…

Other recipes using Weight Watchers wraps

You can use Weight Watchers wrap for all kinds of lighter versions of your favourite treats.

A big favourite of mine is a steak bake. With gravy and mushy peas, it’s the ultimate in comfort food.

Or if you fancy a pizza, why not try a ham and mushroom calzone?

Syn Free Cheese & Onion Pasties

Perfect for lunch or dinner, these Slimming World cheese & onion pasties are light and delicious.
Prep Time5 minutes
Cook Time30 minutes
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: British
Servings: 2
Calories: 295kcal

Ingredients

  • 2 Weight Watchers wraps
  • 40 g reduced fat cheddar grated
  • 1/2 onion finely diced
  • 2 potatoes medium sized, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 dash Worcester sauce
  • Low calorie cooking spray

Instructions

  • Heat your oven to 180 degrees.
  • Boil the potatoes in a pan of boiling water for 10 minutes, or until tender. Remove from heat and drain.
  • Put the potatoes in a bowl and add the cheese, onion, mustard powder, Worcester sauce, and black pepper. Mash together well.
  • Spritz a baking tray with low calorie cooking spray and place the wraps on the tray. Add the cheese and onion to one half of the wrap, being careful not to get it too close to the edge.
  • Brush the inner edge with beaten egg, and fold the wrap in half to form your pasty. At this stage, you'll realise that your wraps aren't exact circles - don't worry about this though! Use the back of a folk to crimp the edges together, ensuring there are no spaces for your filling to ooze out, and then brush with beaten egg.
  • Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven, turn over, brush the other side with beaten egg, and then return to the oven for 10-15 minutes. This ensures that both sides of your bake are nice and browned.
  • Serve and enjoy!
