Syn Free Steak Bakes | Slimming World
If you’re already seriously suspecting that these Slimming World steak bakes will be nothing more than a thundering disappointment, then believe me, I hear you.
But please, do hear me out, because here’s the thing…
I love the Slimming World community. I love the recipes that get shared on Instagram, I love the supportive Facebook groups, and I love plenty of the ideas that get thrown about.
But I think it’s pretty safe to say that every now and again, a ridiculous idea comes along that spreads like wildfire and leads to disappointing dinners all across the land.
Cases in point? Replacing rice with cauliflower. Slathering Smash on a baking tray and having the cheek to compare it to a pizza base. Chucking cottage cheese in a quiche and praying to the slimming gods that it’ll develop cream-like qualities.
Too often, it’s a case of the Emperor’s New Clothes, and surely no one, if they’re totally honest with themselves, can say that they’re wholeheartedly convinced.
So when I heard about pastry being substituted for a Weight Watchers wrap, I was sceptical.
But when I’m wrong, I’ll say I’m wrong. After a little experimentation with fillings, I discovered that these tortilla wraps can indeed create a meal that’ll leave you feeling satisfied, yet still saintly.
Of course, it’s not quite pastry. But I think you’ll agree that the light crisp texture is still really delicious. Give it a try, and let me know what you think…

How to serve your Slimming World steak bakes
These Slimming World steak bakes are comfort food at its absolute best, and so I reckon they’re best served traditionally with Slimming World chips, mushy peas, and gravy. A good dollop of tomato chutney is great too.

Weight Watchers wraps come in packs of six, so if you don’t fancy making yourself some wrap sandwiches for the next few days, why not try out a few different recipes so they don’t go to waste?

Is this recipe really Syn free?
Assuming that you’re using the Weight Watchers wrap as your Healthy Extra B, then your Slimming World steak bakes will be totally Syn free.
Marks & Spencers’ Chunky Steak is Syn free too, but if you’re using another brand, make sure that you double check. Some will have Syns in that you’ll need to count.
If you’re following a calorie controlled diet, then these steak bakes have 327 calories each.
Considering that the ‘real thing’ from Greggs has 20 Syns or 411 calories, that’s a pretty decent saving.
Syn Free Steak Bakes
Ingredients
- 2 Weight Watchers wraps
- 1 400g tin M&S Chunky Steak other brands do similar products, but be sure to check the Syn value - M&S' version is free!
- 1 egg beaten
- Low calorie cooking spray
- Worcester sauce or Frank's Red Hot Sauce optional
Instructions
- Heat your oven to 180 degrees.
- Empty the Chunky Steak into a microwaveable bowl and heat through. Add a splash of Worcester sauce or Frank's if desired.
- Spritz a baking tray with low calorie cooking spray and place the wraps on the tray. Add the heated Chunky Steak to one half of the wrap, being careful not to get it too close to the edge.
- Brush the inner edge with beaten egg, and fold the wrap in half to form your pasty. At this stage, you'll realise that your wraps aren't exact circles - don't worry about this though! Use the back of a folk to crimp the edges together, ensuring there are no spaces for your filling to ooze out, and then brush with beaten egg.

- Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven, turn over, brush the other side with beaten egg, and then return to the oven for 10-15 minutes. This ensures that both sides of your bake are nice and browned.
- Serve and enjoy!
