Ingredients

Looking for the printable recipe card? There’s one waiting for you at the bottom of this post!

  • Fresh strawberries – Choose firm, ripe strawberries with the green tops still on — they make the perfect little “handles” for dipping.

  • Milk chocolate melting wafers – For that rich, classic chocolate coating that sets smooth and shiny.

  • White chocolate melting wafers – Adds a pretty contrast and looks extra festive against the red strawberries.

  • Green chocolate melting wafers – Used for drizzling “wires” to turn your strawberries into edible Christmas lights.

  • Mini red and green M&M’s – The “bulbs” that make the design come to life — cute, colorful, and so fun to decorate with.

How To Make Christmas Lights Chocolate Covered Strawberries

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  • Melt the milk and white chocolate in separate microwave-safe bowls in 30-second bursts, stirring in between until smooth and glossy.

melted chocolate

  • Dip half of the strawberries in white chocolate and the other half in milk chocolate, coating each one evenly up to the stem.
  • Set the dipped strawberries on the prepared baking sheet and let them harden at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

  • Melt the green chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl (again, 30-second intervals work best) and stir until smooth. Drizzle it over the strawberries to look like strands of Christmas lights.

drizzled strawberries

  • Before the drizzle sets, press mini red and green M&M’s along the green “wires” to look like little glowing bulbs.

  • Let the strawberries set for another 10 minutes or so, until the chocolate is completely hardened and ready to serve.

Recipe Notes

  • Dry strawberries completely – Any moisture will make it hard for the chocolate to stick, so give them a gentle pat with paper towels before dipping.

  • Work in batches – If your kitchen is warm, only dip a few strawberries at a time so the chocolate doesn’t harden before you decorate.

  • Use good-quality melting chocolate – Wafers or candy melts will give you that smooth, glossy coating without the need to temper.

  • If the drizzle thickens – Just reheat the green chocolate in 10-second bursts until it’s smooth enough to pipe or drizzle again.

  • Customize the colors – Try using blue and yellow M&M’s for a different string light look, or add some white chocolate dots for a “twinkle” effect.

  • Set time matters – Let them sit at room temperature instead of refrigerating right away; condensation can cause the colors to bleed.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Chocolate options – Swap milk chocolate for dark chocolate if you prefer something richer, or go all white chocolate for a snowy, elegant look.

  • Candy coating swap – No green melts? Tint white chocolate with a few drops of green gel food coloring to make your own drizzle.

  • Different decorations – Use mini Skittles, confetti sprinkles, or edible pearls in place of M&M’s for a colorful twist.

  • Holiday theme remix – Try red drizzle and white candies for Valentine’s Day, or pastel colors for Easter.

  • Flavor upgrade – Add a drop of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate for a minty Christmas twist.
