Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
Every family has those dinners that they come back to again and again, and in my home, fajitas are up there with the ones that we make the most often. This version uses the air fryer so it’s even faster, and there’s way less mess to clear up afterwards!
You slice up the chicken and peppers, toss everything with oil and fajita seasoning, and let the air fryer work its magic. In about half an hour, you’ve got juicy chicken, tender-crisp veggies, and those lightly charred edges that make fajitas taste like they came straight from a sizzling skillet. But with no stovetop babysitting required!

How To Make Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.
- Slice the chicken breasts into thin strips.

- Slice the yellow, green, and red bell peppers, plus the red onion.

- In a large bowl, mix together the avocado oil, fajita seasoning, and salt. Add the chicken and veggies.
- Toss everything until the chicken and vegetables are nicely coated.

- Spread the seasoned chicken and veggies in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook at 380°F (190°C) for 11 minutes.
- After 11 minutes, pull out the basket and give it a good shake, or use tongs to flip the chicken and veggies.
- Pop it back in and cook for another 11 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the veggies are tender with a little char.

- Once everything’s done, take the fajitas out of the air fryer and serve right away with warm tortillas, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or whatever toppings you love.

Recipe Notes
You can use homemade or store-bought fajita seasoning here. Just keep an eye on the salt. Store-bought blends can be all over the place in terms of sodium, so you may need more or less salt depending on what you’re using. I make my own seasoning without salt and then add salt separately so the fajitas are perfectly seasoned every time!
There’s no need to marinate the chicken in advance. The air fryer cooks everything quickly, and the seasoning sticks beautifully to the chicken and veggies as-is.
Every air fryer runs a little differently, so start checking a couple of minutes early the first time you make this. The chicken should be cooked through, and the peppers and onions should have some nice char on the edges. If your basket is smaller, you may also need to cook in two batches for the best results.
Variations
-
Use chicken thighs — They stay super juicy in the air fryer and are a great swap if that’s what you have on hand.
-
Add extra veggies — Mushrooms, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, or sliced jalapeños all cook well and add extra color and flavor.
-
Try different seasonings — Swap the fajita seasoning for taco seasoning, chipotle seasoning, Cajun seasoning, or even a smoky BBQ rub for a fun twist.
-
Make it spicy — Add cayenne, crushed red pepper, or sliced fresh jalapeños to turn up the heat.
-
Citrus bump — A squeeze of lime over the cooked fajitas brightens everything up and makes the flavors pop.
Serving Ideas
These air fryer chicken fajitas are perfect for easy family dinners — set everything out on the table and let everyone build their own. Warm tortillas are the classic route, and the toppings bar is half the fun: salsa, guacamole, sour cream, shredded cheese, lime wedges… whatever your crew loves.
You can also skip the tortillas and turn this into a lighter fajita salad bowl with greens, avocado, and a squeeze of lime. Or serve the chicken and veggies over rice, cauliflower rice, quinoa, or even in a baked potato for a cozy, loaded-dinner moment. Leftovers make great lunch bowls the next day, too.
