Air Fryer Egg & Cheese Toast

This might just be the easiest air fryer recipe I’ve ever shared—but don’t let the simplicity fool you into thinking it’s not super impressive! Think golden, crispy toast topped with a perfectly cooked egg and melty cheese, finished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a little crunch (and a little flair). It’s no-mess, no-fuss, and somehow still feels a little bit boujee. Perfect for those slow weekend mornings when you want something warm and satisfying—without spending your whole morning in the kitchen. This one took a little experimenting with to get that beautifully runny yolk and crispy toast, but I’ve done the testing and trialling so you don’t have to!

  • Brush or drizzle a bit of olive oil over the surface of the bread, especially the edges. It helps things crisp up nicely.

  • Carefully crack an egg into that well. Go slow here—it’s a little delicate, but totally doable.

  • Sprinkle a generous handful of shredded mozzarella over the top. Don’t worry if some lands on the edges—it just makes it extra tasty.

  • Air fry at 175°C (or 350°F) for around 7 minutes. Start checking at the 5-minute mark. Want a runny yolk? Pull it at 7. Prefer it more set? Let it go up to 10 minutes.

  • Once it’s done, sprinkle over some sesame seeds and a pinch of salt for a little crunch and flavor boost.

  • Serve it warm and don’t be shy about adding a little drizzle of maple syrup or honey on the side—it hits that sweet and savory combo just right.

Recipe Notes & Tips

  • Preheat? Maybe. Some air fryers need a quick preheat, others don’t—check your manual or give it a couple of test runs to see what works best for your model. If in doubt, a 2–3 minute preheat won’t hurt.

  • Egg watch: Eggs cook fast in the air fryer, and every machine is a little different. Start checking at the 5-minute mark so you don’t miss that perfect runny yolk moment. Prefer a fully set yolk? Let it go for closer to 10 minutes.

  • Hot tip for runny yolks: If you’re team runny yolk, make sure to press the well deep enough so the egg stays put and doesn’t spill over the edge (been there).

  • Want a spicy twist? Add a few drops of hot sauce before cooking or sprinkle on red chili flakes just before serving.

  • Add-ins welcome: A slice of ham or turkey under the egg is amazing, or toss on some sautéed mushrooms or spinach before the cheese for a bit of extra veg.

  • Bread matters: White sandwich bread works best here—it holds its shape and toasts evenly. Avoid thick-cut bread or it may not cook through properly in the center.

  • Crispy cheese edges: If some cheese melts onto the bread edges or even the air fryer basket, embrace it. Those golden bits are little bites of magic.
