Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
If you’ve never made your own tortilla chips, this is your sign to give it a try! We’re making these in the air fryer and they’re crispy, golden, and wildly satisfying — with just three ingredients and no deep frying required.
They’re a healthier take on your favorite salty snack, made with less oil but still full of crunch. Perfect for dipping into guac, pairing with salsa, or just munching by the handful, they’re easy enough for everyday snacking and crowd-pleasing enough to serve as a party appetizer. Once you try them, you’ll wonder why you ever bought a bag! They taste so much fresher than the grocery store variety, and there’s the added benefit of no mystery ingredients or questionable preservatives.

Ingredients
You’ll find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post! In the coming sections, I’m going to talk you through ingredients, share photos from the process, and discuss variations and serving suggestions.
-
Yellow corn tortillas: The base of your chips! Yellow corn tortillas give that classic flavor and crunch, but you can use white corn if that’s what you have. Just make sure they’re not too soft or flimsy — sturdy tortillas crisp up best.
-
Coarse salt: Adds that salty, snacky goodness. Kosher salt or flaky sea salt both work well here. Sprinkle to taste — light-handed or salty like the sea, your call.
-
Cooking spray: Helps the chips crisp up without deep frying. I like avocado oil spray, but olive oil spray works too. A quick mist is all you need.

How To Make Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
-
Slice the tortillas: Cut four corn tortillas into 6 wedges each — like you’re slicing a little tortilla pizza. You’ll end up with 24 chips total.

-
Load up the air fryer: Place as many tortilla pieces as you can in a single layer in your air fryer basket. No overlapping! I can usually fit about 9 at a time, but your air fryer might hold more or less depending on its shape.

-
Spritz and season: Give the tortillas a light spray with cooking oil (avocado or olive oil spray both work great), then sprinkle with coarse salt. No need to measure — just season to your taste.

-
Preheat the air fryer: Preheat by running your air fryer for a minute or two. It helps the chips cook more evenly and crisp up nicely.
-
Air fry: Cook the chips at 300°F for 8 minutes. They should be crisp and just golden around the edges. Keep going in batches until they’re all done — and try not to eat them all straight from the basket.

Storage
Store your air fryer tortilla chips in an airtight container at room temperature — somewhere cool and dry, like the pantry. They’ll stay fresh and crispy for up to a week. Skip the fridge or freezer, though — the moisture will mess with that perfect crunch.
Serving Ideas
These air fryer tortilla chips are made for dipping — think guacamole, fresh salsa, queso, or a creamy bean dip. They’re also perfect crumbled over taco salads, chili, or even sprinkled into soup for a little crunch. Hosting a party? Serve them alongside a DIY nacho bar or use them as the base for sheet pan nachos. And honestly, they’re just as good straight from the container for an afternoon snack you won’t want to share.

Variations
Want to mix things up? You can! These chips are super customizable. Try white corn tortillas or even flour tortillas if that’s what you’ve got — just keep an eye on the cook time, as flour crisps a little differently. For a flavor boost, sprinkle on chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, or lime zest before air frying. Craving sweet instead of salty? Brush the tortillas with a little melted butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and air fry for a dessert-style chip. Just be warned: they disappear fast.
