Katsu Chicken Curry | Slimming World
If you’ve ever been to Wagamamas, then you’ll almost definitely have seen someone being served up the ultimate in Japanese comfort food, the famous katsu chicken curry.
With crunchy, breaded chicken, and a silky, satisfying sauce, it’s no surprise that it’s one of the chain’s all-time bestsellers.
It might seem like a wholesome and healthy option, but it’s actually a bit deceptive. A serving in the restaurant will cost you a whopping 28 Syns, so it’s best saved for a special occasion.
Don’t worry though. I’ve worked the Slimming Violet magic and I’ve created a Slimming World katsu curry that’s saintly enough to be served up whenever you fancy it.
Here’s what you need to know…
For the full ingredients list and detailed instructions, see the recipe card at the end of this post. Make sure you check out this important information first though…
Spicentice mix for the perfect katsu curry sauce
The warming, slightly spicy curry sauce is a big part of what makes this dish so special, and a key component of getting this right is making sure that you use just the right mix of spices.
That’s why, for this recipe, I recommend using Spicentice’s Katsu Curry Kit.
It’s Syn free, it’s just £1.59, and it makes the best Japanese style curry sauce that you’ve ever tasted!
Each kit makes 4 generous portions, and makes dinnertimes extra special – especially if you’re short on time or inspiration.
Even better, as a Slimming Violet reader, you can save 10% on all orders. Simply enter discount code SLIMMINGV10 at the checkout. You’ll also get FREE shipping in the UK with orders over £20.
How many calories and Syns are in this recipe?
There are 288 calories in this Slimming World katsu curry, or 5.5 Syns.
If you want to cut the Syns down a little, you could replace the breadcrumbs from the recipe with your own homemade version, using your Healthy Extra allowance.
Personally though, I think it’s definitely worthwhile to choose Panko and just accept the extra Syns. These breadcrumbs give a real crunch to the chicken, and make for a much more authentic meal.
Do remember that these calorie and Syn values are just for the chicken and katsu sauce, so you should count any side dishes separately!
How to serve your Slimming World katsu curry
This katsu curry recipe is perfect served simply with a side of freshly cooked rice.
For extra speed foods, add a serving of salad.
This meal is particularly good with a salad made from very finely sliced carrot and cucumber. To get the strips extra thin, use a vegetable peeler.
