Fanta Chicken | Slimming Friendly

This slimming Fanta chicken recipe is one of the all-time most popular recipes here on the blog.

It might sound a little bit unusual, or perhaps even downright strange, but I promise you that once you’ve tried it, you’ll be converted.

It’s a super simple one-pan meal, and if you love sweet and sour from your local Chinese, it’s going to be right up your street.

Here’s everything you need to know about making it tonight…

For the full ingredients list and detailed instructions, see the recipe card at the end of this post. Make sure you check out this important information first though…

What does slimming Fanta chicken actually taste like?

No one’s likely to guess that Fanta is your secret ingredient here unless you decide to tell them.

Like I’ve mentioned, it’s reminiscent of sweet and sour, and is a fantastic option is you fancy a fakeaway night.

It’s sweet with a real kick from the chilli flakes, it’s sticky, and it’s absolutely delicious.

I’m yet to come across a single person who’s tried out this recipe and hasn’t loved it!

And it’s totally slimming friendly?

Yes…

At 274 calories per portion, it’s also a great choice for the calorie counters out there.

For reference, an average man needs to consume around 2,500 calories a day to maintain a healthy body weight. For an average woman, it’s around 2,000 calories a day.

Of course, if you’re aiming to lose weight, you’ll want to consume less than this to reach your goals!

What should you serve it with?

I usually serve my slimming Fanta chicken with some white rice, and in the interests of getting those veggies in, a side salad.

It also goes great with a portion of slimming chips or wedges.

If you’ve somehow managed to miss the Diet Coke chicken hype, then this is another recipe that’s definitely worth your time.

It’s sweet, sticky, and tastes a little like barbecue sauce. It’s another great option for a fakeaway night!

Extra tips and advice for making this dish

Everything you need to know is covered in the recipe card at the end of the post, but these are a few important points that you might want to keep in mind…

  • Thickening your sauce. This is the question that I’m asked most when I mention this recipe, and I know that it’s something that lots of people have found tricky. The answer here is really simple… You just need to give it time! Your sauce WILL thicken. Don’t remove anything from the pan until it’s good to go, or it won’t be anywhere near as sticky and satisfying!
  • Using different cuts of chicken. I’ve used chicken breast here, but to be honest, I much prefer cooking with thighs. They’re just so much tastier and much more tender. Feel free to use chicken that you like, but make sure to remove any visible fat to keep things slimming friendly.
  • Throwing in extra vegetables. Got different vegetables hanging around the back of your fridge that you want to get rid of? Go for it! I’m a big advocate of using what you’ve got, saving money, and cutting down on waste. Mangetout, baby corn, and mushrooms would all work great.

  • Bring the pan to a steady simmer, and cook for 25 minutes, stirring often, or until the sauce thickens and reduces to a slightly sticky texture. It may seem like there's a lot of liquid and that it isn't reducing - but it WILL happen, so be patient!
  • Add the pineapple, stir, and simmer for another minute.
  • Serve and enjoy!
