1. Chocolate cream pie

Talk about indulgence!

Chocolate cream pie has a classic Oreo cookie base, a creamy custard filling, and heavenly peaks of cream as a topping.

It’s a dessert that may seem fairly complex when you think about the various different elements that need to be prepared, but as long as you’re organised and you carefully plan your time, it’s achievable for even novice bakers.

Just make sure you leave enough time so it can set in the refrigerator for 12 hours!

2. Strawberry cheesecake

With a biscuity base, a cream cheese topping, and a swirl of fruity compote, a strawberry cheesecake is a dessert that can be teamed up with almost any main course.

If this is a regular dessert that you like to make, maybe it’s time to get experimental and try something new.

3. Red velvet cake

If you’ve never had red velvet cake before, get ready to enjoy a real taste sensation!

But what exactly is it?

Is it chocolate, or is it vanilla?

Well actually, it’s its on flavour in its own right, based on a chocolate mixture but with less cocoa powder.

A cream cheese frosting is quite literally the icing on the cake, and makes this a great dessert for steak.

Apple pie is a typically British dessert that’s fantastic after a satisfying, meat based meal.

Give your guests a choice of accompaniments, such as cream, ice cream, and custard.

5. Freshly baked cookies

Sometimes, especially when the weather is warmer, you might want to exchange filling puddings and sweet pies for something lighter.

Everyone loves freshly baked cookies, and everyone can help themselves to as many as they like after their main meal.

My personal favourite is chocolate chip, though flavour combinations are pretty much endless.

6. Champagne raspberry posset

This recipe for champagne raspberry possets is one of my favourites when I’m looking for a dessert that’s stylish, sophisticated, yet easy to make!

The dryness of the fizz complements the berries perfectly.

If you like, you can substitute the champagne for Prosecco or cava.

The recipe only requires a very small amount, so you can treat yourself to a glass whilst you’re preparing your dinner.

7. Boozy strawberries and cream

Strawberries and cream is a delicious, classic combination that’s made even better by the addition of a little tipple.

Boozy strawberries and cream has a generous dash of orange liqueur, such as Cointreau, which makes the flavour of the berries really sing.

It’s a decadent, grown up dessert that’s ideally suited to a steak dinner party.

Bananas foster is made with banana and ice cream, and a sauce made with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, and banana liqueur.

If you love bananas, you really must try this dessert!

It’s a real classic that has a ton of retro appeal, and it’s bound to trigger some happy nostalgic memories amongst those round the table.

There are no shortcuts or hacks here so you’ll be making everything from scratch, but sometimes it’s worth taking the extra time.

You can’t beat the satisfaction of presenting such an impressive dessert that everyone will be eager to dig into right away.

It’s perfect when you’re considering what dessert goes with steak and you want something that’s fruity as well as indulgent.

10. Chocolate brownie

A chocolate brownie is oh so versatile.

It can be a quick taste of something sweet over a cup of coffee, or when served freshly baked from the oven, it can be a sticky, rich, chocolatey dessert that’s worthy of presented after a special meal.

A key mistake to avoid when making brownies is over baking.

If you want to make sure that they’re soft and fudgey, you’ll want to take them out of the oven before a toothpick comes out completely clean.

11. Tiramisu

Tiramisu may well be an authentic Italian dessert, but it works just as well when served after steak and chips!

The rich, coffee flavour really helps to finish off a special meal, and as you can prepare it in advance, it can be fuss free.

12. Rhubarb tart

Rhubarb tart is sweet with a sharp edge, and is a wonderful dessert when served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some chopped pistachio nuts.

Buy ready rolled butter pastry to save yourself a little time… No one will know, and you can take all the credit for yourself if you like!

Steak tends to be a fairly hands-on meal, particularly in the final stages of preparation. It may become a little hectic if you have guests that like their meat done at different stages!

Make life easier by getting as much of your dessert preparation done in advance as you possibly can. Ultimately, serving a special dinner should be fun, so don’t be afraid to take a few shortcuts to save yourself some time and stress.
